Deep Dive Masterclass: How to Blind Taste, Tuesday 15th September 2026

Ever wondered how Masters of Wine and the world's top sommeliers can identify a wine's grape variety, origin, and even vintage with such remarkable precision? How do they navigate thousands of possibilities armed with nothing more than what's in the glass?

This two-hour masterclass will introduce you to the approach and methodology of blind tasting, used by candidates preparing for some of the world's most demanding wine examinations. Throughout the evening, you'll learn how to recognise classic aromas and flavour profiles, assess a wine's structural elements, such as acidity, tannin, alcohol, and body, and use them to build a logical framework for identifying grape variety, origin and quality.

You'll leave with a foundation on which to build your confidence as a blind taster, along with practical cheat sheets to help you continue honing your skills at home. Above all, expect an evening of discovery, outstanding wines, and delicious food. Our Executive Chef Stewart Turner will prepare a selection of small plates for each guest, ensuring your inner wine sleuth is well fuelled throughout the evening.

Wines to be tasted: In keeping with the theme of blind tasting, the wines will not be revealed until the masterclass. Expect an international line-up featuring benchmark styles from around the world, including classics such as Classified Growth Bordeaux and Premier Cru Burgundy.
