Elite wines of Italy: Tuscans and Super Tuscans

Try some of Italy's most sought after red wines with this tasting of traditional Sangiovese-based wines and the rule-breaking Super Tuscans. This tasting follows our last tasting visit to Italy, where we were in Piemonte. This time we are going to Tuscany, home of the famous Sangiovese grape which can express in dramatically different ways and has many distinct local clones across the region. We will also try a couple of Super Tuscans; the rule-breakers which changed Italian wine in the late 20th century by defying the DOC wine laws which shackled wine producers to turgid, old-fashioned styles and varieties unsuited to the area. We will be opening a flight of six fabulous Tuscan reds paired with some appropriate nibbles from our food range. The wines tasted on the night will be available for sale at a special price to attendees. Tickets are £48 per person; the tasting starts at 6pm, lasting about an hour and a half.
