English Wine Garden Supper

The Crouch Valley is fast becoming one of the most exciting wine regions in the world. A warm, dry pocket of Essex with the soils and climate to produce English still wines of real seriousness – the kind of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that genuinely belong in the same conversation as Burgundy. We're devoting an evening to it. On 23rd June, the gardens at Boys Hall become a long table for a summer feast cooked entirely over open fire, in the company of the winemakers from Hollands and Danbury Ridge – two of the region's most compelling names. Both will be pouring through the meal and talking through what they're making and why. The menu includes homemade summer herb brioche, cultured butter, ham & Roquefort bites, charred beetroot & horseradish bellinis, smoked mackerel pâté, pickled sea herbs, sourdough crisp, roasted scallop, mirabelle plum, garlic butter, smoked bacon, rolled grilled pork, Kentish apple sauce, fresh radish, apple demi-glace, tomato served with basil & anchovy salad, grilled courgette salad, grilled Ratte potatoes, crème fraîche, fresh herbs, and barbecued peaches, torched meringue, fresh fruit coulis. £95 per person, including tasting measures of every wine paired through the meal. Long tables in the gardens, fire in the open air, and the people behind the bottles in the seat next to you.
