About this event
Join us for the very first Wine Society Paulée – a relaxed and celebratory evening dedicated to one of the world’s most captivating grape varieties, syrah. Inspired by the convivial Paulée traditions of Burgundy, this communal dinner invites every guest to bring a bottle of syrah or shiraz from their own "cellar" to share with fellow members around the table, alongside a selection of special bottles provided by us. Throughout the evening, Rhône buyer Fiona Hayes and South Africa buyer Victoria Mason MW will also share stories from their travels, discoveries and experiences working with some of the world’s greatest syrah producers and explain why this remarkable grape continues to inspire them so deeply.
A Paulée is, at heart, a celebration of wine, generosity and community – an occasion where wine lovers come together to share bottles, stories and conversation around the table. Traditionally linked to the harvest feasts of Burgundy, the spirit of a Paulée is wonderfully informal, collaborative and joyful, and we’re delighted to bring that atmosphere to this BRAND-NEW Wine Society event centred entirely on syrah and shiraz.
Hosted at Bleeding Heart Bistro, the evening will feature generous feasting-style plates designed for sharing, creating a relaxed and sociable setting perfectly suited to the wines and the spirit of the occasion.
Each guest is encouraged to bring one bottle per ticket of syrah or shiraz from their own collection – whether it’s a treasured mature bottle, an exciting new discovery or simply a personal favourite. The wines will be shared amongst fellow members and guests at each table, creating a unique tasting experience shaped by everyone in the room.
Alongside the bottles brought by members, we’ll also be opening several exceptional wines from our own cellars, including the legendary Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle 1997 and Boekenhoutskloof Syrah 2010 – a landmark wine that helped define the modern era of South African syrah.
Throughout the evening, Rhône buyer Fiona Hayes and South Africa buyer Victoria Mason MW will guide members through the world of syrah, sharing personal stories from vineyard visits, producer relationships and memorable bottles along the way. From the granite slopes of the northern Rhône to the wild landscapes of South Africa, they’ll explore what makes syrah such a thrilling and expressive grape variety, and why it continues to captivate wine lovers around the world.
More than simply a dinner, this Syrah Paulée is designed to bring members together through shared bottles, conversation and discovery – a celebration of the warmth, generosity and sense of community that make wine so special in the first place.
