About this event
Backed by the towering Andes, the vineyards of Argentina are some of the highest in the world. Altitude offers cooler temperatures and a longer growing season, creating wines with elegance as well as power. The country's wines have become a popular mainstay on wine racks and restaurant wine lists, moving beyond Malbec to take in grape varieites including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvigon and Cabernet Franc, which is producing some particularly noteworthy wines.
In Chile, once considered a reliable yet unexciting destination for any adventerous wine explorer, change has made the country now well worth getting to know. The reputation and status of Chile's white wines is growing fast, with excellent examples of Sauvignon Blanc and old vine Semillon, while reds from quality- and environmentally-focussed producers are rightfully taking their place on wine's world stage.
In both countires, ancient Criolla grapes such as Torrontes and Pais offer a fascinating glimpse of the past, too.
