About this event

The WSET Level 3 Award in Wines is designed for those who have a truly strong interest in wine, want to get a deeper understanding of the wide world of wines and significantly improve their tasting skills. This is an advanced course and is suited for those who have completed the WSET Level 2 or have equivalent knowledge.

The course covers the factors that affect the style, quality, and price of the main types of wines. You will learn how to analyse wines accurately, make appropriate wine recommendations, and confidently explain wine style and quality. This qualification is great for wine industry professionals and enthusiasts who want to enhance their understanding of wine production, regions, and tasting analysis. Specifically, some of the skills you can gain from the WSET Level 3 course include:

- Ability to confidently choose or recommend wines based on personal preferences.
- Make confident and informed recommendations on wine pairings with food.
- Strong communication skills for explaining wine style and quality to others.
- Understanding of the key factors that influence the style, quality, and price of wines
- Advanced wine-tasting skills, including the ability to make objective conclusions on a wine’s style, quality, and readiness for drinking.

About the course:

- Duration & dates: 5 consecutive Sundays: 13th, 20th, and 27th September and 4th and 11th October 2026 10:30am – 5:30pm. Exam will take place on the last day of the course.
- Group: Limited to a maximum of 12 students.
- Tasting: You will sample 65 premium wines including Champagne and port as a part of the course.
- Wine educator: This course will be led by Radu Vasile – our Edgbaston store’s manager. Radu’s worked at Loki for over three years now following a career in the hospitality industry and has a real passion for wine, backed up by some serious expertise. He loves to continuously improve himself and having completed the Level 4 Diploma in Wines in 2022, Radu is now pursuing his dream and currently intensively studying to embark on the long journey of the Master of Wine programme. With a fresh Wine Educator certificate now under his belt, where he received amazing feedback from the panel by the way, Radu is eager to pass his knowledge on to anyone who will listen!
- Exam: The assessment is split into two units: theory and tasting abilities test.
- Unit 1: 50 multiple-choice questions test and a paper with four questions requiring short written answers.
- Unit 2: Blind tasting exam for two still wines, where you will have to describe wine and its qualities.
- Qualification: Fully accredited and internationally recognised WSET Level 3 Wine Award Qualification certificate and lapel pin are granted to students with a score of 55% or higher.
- Preparation: This is an advanced course and you are expected to have a solid understanding of wine prior to the course. You can enrol if you have completed WSET Level 2 or you can also gain entry through our Level 3 Award in Wines Online Entry Test or an informal

This course will require you to dedicate a minimum of 52 hours of private time to studying.

- France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Central and South Eastern Europe, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, North America, South and Central America
- Sparkling Wines
- Fortified (Liqueur) Wines
- How to make appropriate wine recommendations
- How to taste wines using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
- Study materials: Students can collect the WSET Level 3 study guide prior to the course start date, alternatively you can choose the guide to be sent to your home address for an additional £15 fee (which will also include the delivery of the certificate upon completion). - Certificate: Upon successful completion of the course, you will be emailed by our wine educator who will let you know when the certificate is ready for collection, or if you’ve chosen delivery we’ll notify you when it’s on its way.
